I have a new nephew...

I'm not interested in turning this into a family photo album, but I have a new nephew, so look at the damn pictures.

This is my Mom and Owen Alexander Ruth. Doesn't she have a nice Mom-fro?

This is Owen all by himself. He looks squishy and warm.

I used to live with my cousin and when she had her baby, Jack, we called it "Being Jacked" when he fell asleep on your chest because it was like a shot of valium.

I bet this kid would induce the same kind of feeling.

And here we have William (my cool 4.5 year old Nephew), Greg Ruth (Ruth Potter-Ruth's husband), and Owen's head.

Chakka Brah!

I've been snowboarding for a few years now. I've gotten pretty good on the regular slopes and am now delving into the whole terrain park adventure. These are the areas where snowboarding X-games were born. There are half-pipes, rails, boxes, jumps... pretty much anything you'd find at a skateboard park.

An aside: I was always the girl who wanted to ride motorcycles, be a skateboarder, play bass in an all-boy band, be edgy and cool, but really cute all at the same time. I said I WANTED to do all these things, but never followed through, not even a bit.

Now I'm doing it at 35. Perspective is really everything for me these days and this, well this is funny as hell.

All these young kids, wearing their snowboarding pants at the bottom of their stupid asses, accessorizing with everything and anything that doesn't match, getting in my f'n way, talking like freaks and geeks and watching me drink my beer with such longing, the bitches.

I don't want to be like them. Fuck, I can't be like them - I'm too responsible, interesting and wise. But I do want their respect for some damn reason. And those times that I (seemingly risk life and limb) take those jumps, or board off the boxes and rails - no matter how hard I fall, how hard I yell "fuck" and laugh, how long it takes me to get up, I always hear some kind of "good on ya" from one of those little fuckers.

Not sure why that makes me so happy, but it does. I guess realizing that those "too cool for school" punks actually really care about what they're doing, and do it with at least a hint of humility, and care about having more women in the fold.

Or maybe they just think I'm hot...

(I just picked myself off the floor from laughing so hard)

Renaissance Woman

I can sew, crochet, knit, build stuff, make jewelry, cast metal, cook, clean, change a tire, wire an outlet, transfer images, design anything, build a website, fix some computer problems, wire my stereo system, count to ten in many languages, make my own pita bread, make children smile, make adults laugh, own up to my mistakes, solve puzzles, win video games, remember conversations verbatim, laugh at myself, win respect and influence people, tie-dye a shirt, make a pillow, grow herbs, trim marijuana, negotiate the buying of a house, not go to prison, make a wreath from things lying around my house, use panty-hose for 20 different applications, get gum out of hair and wood, make a manhatten, fix a stapler, make balloon animals, snowboard, skydive, snorkel, run a marathon...

How the hell am I not paid as much as Martha Stewart?

(oh yeah, and as Hbomb pointed out, choreograph silly dance numbers for only my crazy friends to watch...it's a good thing... can Martha do THAT?)

on the "farm"

I spent the past weekend up at a friend's "farm". Here's the song I wrote:

there was a farmer who had a farm

E I E I Whoa

and to this farm I took my friends

E I E I Whoa

With a bud bud here, and a hippy over there
Here a plant, there a shroom, everywhere a bowl bowl

at the farm, we smoked on out

E I E I Whoa

the scene was beautiful at the farm

E I E I Whoa

we grabbed some shears, but not for yarn

E I E I Whoa

with a snip snip here, and a chaka brah there
here's a joint, there's some dirt, everywhere some beer beer

I have a friend, who has a farm

E I E I Whoa

fourty hippies at the farm

E I E I Whoa

Most of them support same sex marriage

E I E I Whoa

with some vegan food here, and sustainable living there
here we sit, here we snip, everywhere some larf larf

from this farm I earned some weed

E I E I Whoa

about one ounce I earned, I did

E I E I Whoa

with some music here, and 40 ipods there
here a dog, there a cat, everywhere a tent tent

I had tons of fun at the old farm

E I E I Whoa

Rite Spot, right time

Last night, J and I wanted to go out for a bit, and wanted to go somewhere new... so we looked online for awhile and dropped 4 going out ideas into a "hat" (we've since decided to keep a vessel of good going-out ideas so that when we are at a loss, we have it. Just pick a piece of paper from the "hat"). We ended up at Rite Spot Cafe. (Folsom at 17th)

This was my Yelp.com review of it:

This bar hit me just perfectly on a night when I wanted to go somewhere a bit "intimate", but not pretentious.

I expected to see a plethora of Mission Hipsters here and I was so pleasantly surprised... There was a pretty eclectic crowd.

And the Lee Vilenski trio was outstanding. They got us right away on a cover of Donovan's Summer Surprise. Good good stuff.

So the food is what I would expect in a nice bar/supper club in Iowa (my homeland).

Pre-packaged ripple oreda fries - cooked perfectly
chicken piccata - tasted pretty good, but also a bit slimey
fried ravioli - very good, and also cooked perfectly
burger - good, very greasy though (I think that was because of the added grilled onions)

All in all, a great trip out and I will definitely go there again to drink and have some cocktails. I might pass on the food though. But then again, if I were hungry, I'd probably eat there.

Cool people who do cool things

My friend and former classmate, Emily, has launched her new website, Crown-E. I'm so prowd of her for finally bringing her art to the masses. I bought one of the bags (Uncle) and it's ever-so-neat. I highly recommend checking her out.

My other friend, John (who is the most fabulous of colorists) is also really getting into his creative side... He's got a huge photo-shoot planned in December with 5 models and an excellent photograher who is flying in from Montreal for the shoot. I get to "assist", which means I'll sit around just watching in awe, no doubt.

Cool people doing cool things... gotta love it.
